MATERNITY PORTRAIT TIPS:
- Moisturize: you should prepare their skin for the photo-shoot by moisturizing with lotion the most troublesome areas like knuckles, elbows & knees. - Skin Marks: The day of the photo-shoot, you should refrain from wearing any tight clothing or underwear that would have elastic bands that could leave marks on the skin. This includes socks & bra's especially. - Tanning: Some women have the luck to have gorgeous sun-kissed skin. For those who feel self-conscious about their skin being too pale, there is an option. **Spray Tan** **Makeup Artist, Hair Stylist and Spray Tanners are recommended under the "VENDORS" button. - Daddy: If the daddy will be included in the photo-shoot, lets remind him to shave and prep as well. -Props: Odds are that most of the props needed for the maternity shots, you already have. Bring them to the photo-shoot. (We will discuss ideas ahead of time so we know what we will need as far as props.)
MORE MATERNITY TIPS
-Clothing -For outdoor photo-shoots it's best to stay away from WHITE outfits. I suggest that you wear clean and ironed outfits that are mostly solid colors, & nothing that is too big on you. The idea is to accentuate the belly; so buttoned shirts are good, because buttons can be opened if you wish to take photos of your bare belly. Tops that completely reveal the belly are good too, so something that would be like a cardigan covering only the breasts and arms could be a good option. Wraps & scarves can be used as a top without covering the belly as well. If the hubby, siblings & other family members will be joining you in the photo-shoot, their clothes should be color coordinated as well. Something like a solid top (blue, black, green, etc.), and jeans or khakis is always a good combination. Long shirts and dresses that wrap the belly are a good option for mommies who don’t wish to bear too much skin. -Location, Location, Location -Inside: Maternity photo-shoots could be very private in your home. The privacy can allow for you to feel more comfortable. Pictures can be taken inside the baby’s room, in front of a well-lit window, a solid color wall or even in bed. In this case, it is good to have you prep the house so that everything is in order and the baby’s room is ready and clean. -Taking it outside can be fun too. A park or a botanical garden are great places to start. Local historical buildings and areas are good too. -We will discuss this and decide on locations before we head out.
INFANT PORTRAIT TIPS:
-Infants should be well fed just before the session begins. With newborn infants it may be best if they are sleepy. Portraits of sleeping babies are often ones that we treasure the most.
-You know your infant better than anyone else, so it is good to try to schedule the session at a time when your infant is the most cooperative.
-Most infants photograph extremely well when clothed just in a diaper. If the infant is especially young, then we suggest that you bring a blanket to wrap the infant in in-between shots to keep them warm.
-If you want shots of the infant clothed, we suggest very simple clothing that is solid in color. Light but not white colors usually look the most pleasing in a portrait. Simple creams, tans, and off whites are good choices.
-A small and favorite toy is also suggested. We may include it in the portrait or just use it to get the babies attention.
-Props are okay too.CHILDREN'S PORTRAIT TIPS
Do you smile when you’re under pressure? Imagine yourself sitting in front of a stranger with your mother or father leaning over saying:
*Smile! Why don’t you want to smile?
*Sit up, come on now, sit up and smile!
*If you don’t smile, no McDonalds!
*I know you hate to wear that outfit, honey, but just smile so we can get the pictures done.
*Flash*Wahhh*Wahhh*
*Come on sweetie, don’t cry now…it’s almost over, just one more smile.
Goodness! What pressure!. It’s almost guaranteed after an experience like that that your child will never want a professional photo ever again. I aim to solve that problem by coming to you in an environment that both you and your child enjoy.
When do you wish you had your camera with you? It’s when Little Johnny or Little Suzie are running wild…playing with toys, riding tricycles, rolling in the grass, flying down a slide, spinning in circles, etc. Everyone knows that your kids don’t wear a red velvet dress or slacks and button up shirt by choice. Show your friends and family that wonderful, happy child you know.
No rushed sessions or strict rules. An hour to an hour and a half is usually enough time to capture enough images to have a hard time deciding which ones to enlarge.
Children, like infants, should be well fed. It would be a great idea to bring a small supply of your child's favorite snack.
-Clothing choices should be simple, solid colored clothes. Avoid bold and bright colors and clothing with patterns.
-Having your picture taken by a stranger can often be stressful for a child and the snacks can sometimes help remove some of that stress and can be used to encourage cooperation. As hard as it is, the parent should be prepared to step back from the shoot and let the photographer and the child interact. If the photographer needs or wants the parents' assistance, they will ask. Often a child is more likely to be compliant to wishes of the photographer than the parent. This is not always the case, but is something to keep in mind. Again, bring along a favorite toy, something small and portable.FAMILY PORTRAIT TIPS
-Make sure everyone is well rested and fed.
-All family members should dress in similar tones. They don't have to be the exact same color, but they should have the same tonal value - same brightness and contrast.
-Try not to have some in dark colors and others in light colors. This will take away from the effectiveness of the image. This is supposed to be a family portrait, not a picture of your clothes.
-And yes, Dogs can be included if they are well-behaved.
